Blurb (from Goodreads):

What happens when a single mom’s four-year-old daughter falls in love with Mr. Right and she doesn’t?

Maggie Tyson’s rule: no bad boys. Her incarcerated ex-husband broke her of that attraction. Needing to escape his threats and the scrutiny of the people in her hometown, Maggie relocates to New York City. Determined to not make the same mistakes, she has a mile-long list of dos and don’ts. Unfortunately, her daughter, Cecily, doesn’t like to follow them. When Cecily wanders away from her and right into Rick Stone’s office, Maggie knows he’s the exact type she’s been trying to avoid. Can she resist him or will she succumb to his willful charm?

Rick Stone’s rule: bed them don’t wed them. Running a multibillion dollar business doesn’t leave him with much time to do anything else, particularly with an overbearing grandfather breathing down his neck. But when a man works hard, he needs to play even harder. Voted America’s most eligible bachelor, Rick doesn’t have any problems getting women into his bed—except one.
Two auburn beauties stumble into his life.
One will break his heart.
The other—heal it.
Will he love or leave them?

Welcome to my review tour stop of Unlikely Allies by C.C. Koen, hosted by Xpresso Book Tours. You can follow the rest of the tour schedule here.

This book was just sooo sweet. I made me smile from the very first page. I loved every bit of it. I’m so glad I decided to read this book.

I loved the plot. Rick is the head of a multibillion company, all he does is work and work. He doesn’t pay much attention to anything else until Cece stumbles upon his office room looking for her rodent. Then he comes face to face with the mother of the beautiful 4 year old. After this meeting their lives basically never remain the same. They stumble upon each other now and then and most of the times the reason is always Cece.

I adored the characters. Specially Cece, she stole the show. Believe me, I wouldn’t regret if there was not an ounce of romance in this book, I just loved Cece so much and her friendship with Rick. It was a beautiful bond that they formed which grew much more stronger throughout the story. The main reason Maggie and Rick connects is because of Cece and their love for her. Naturally she fell for Rick who treated Cece like her own daughter. I loved Rick, he was so protective of Cece and he did everything to make her smile and he treated her like his princess. I can’t express, but I loved their bond so much. Maggie was feisty and stubborn, but she was a proud mom. She did everything for her daughter, she was ready to make the biggest sacrifices only for her daughter. She desperately tried not to fall for another “bad guy” but she couldn’t stop herself. It took a lot of time for both of them to realise what they felt for one another.

The other characters are worth mentioning as well. Maggie’s sister was pretty awsome. The three of them formed a great team. Rick’s best friend was a great character as well. He always advised him the best and watched out for him. And Rick’s mother, who had a little role, but she was a genuinely a good mother and I loved how she was rooting for Rick and Maggie.

The writing was simple and beautiful. I finished this book quite easily. I was hooked from the start, it managed to capture my attention from the first to the very end. I specially loved the bonus content at the end where we get to watch their life as they grow and develop.

All in all, this was a great complementary read, it had humour and it was full of cuteness. Cece will manage to capture every reader’s heart in a heartbeat, just like she captured mine.

Recommend it?

Of course!

  1. I haven’t tried any adult contemporary romances yet but I’m seriously considering it especially with lovely reviews like this. (And you know, Lauren and her fantawesome reviews on these books). As I was reading your review and the synopsis for this, the only thing crossing my mind was “why haven’t I met a good-looking multimillionaire bachelor yet?!” LOL. Anyway, lovely review, Poulami! I’m finding a lot of great indie titles thanks to you and Xpresso tours. 🙂
