Blurb (from Goodreads):

Don’t love your enemy. Declare war on him.

Seventeen-year-old Isis Blake hasn’t fallen in love in three years, nine weeks, and five days, and after what happened last time, she intends to keep it that way. Since then she’s lost eighty-five pounds, gotten four streaks of purple in her hair, and moved to Buttcrack-of-Nowhere, Ohio, to help her mom escape a bad relationship.

All the girls in her new school want one thing— Jack Hunter, the Ice Prince of East Summit High. Hot as an Armani ad, smart enough to get into Yale, and colder than the Arctic, Jack Hunter’s never gone out with anyone. Sure, people have seen him downtown with beautiful women, but he’s never given high school girls the time of day. Until Isis punches him in the face.

Jack’s met his match. Suddenly everything is a game.

The goal: Make the other beg for mercy.
The game board: East Summit High.
The reward: Something neither of them expected.

I have mixed feelings about this book. Honestly, I struggled to rate it. At first I gave it a four but after thinking about it throughly I deducted a star. This book was nice but not at all what I was expecting.

Isis Blake used to be the black sheep in her high school and it really got to her when someone she deeply cared about hurted her. Along with her mom, she moves to Ohio to escape her mom’s abusive ex-boyfriend. She plans to remain single for as long as she can but then she meets Jack. Those two can’t stop fighting with each other but it seems like they both had met their match. But can their happiness last long or will their secrets destroy any chance for their future?

So, as I stated, I thought the book was going to be different and a lot of fun. But unfortunately, it failed to reach my expectations. But I did like how the plot was executed. Both Isis and Jack have a past of their own and they are both struggling with it everyday. It’s hate at first sight with them but they can’t stay away from each other either. I felt bad for Isis, her weight was a big issue and she got bullied and rejected because of that in her high school and that pain remained with her. Also along with that, she has to take care of her mother. I wish this book described a bit more of the mother-daughter relationship because I was really liking it.

Jack is the cold hearted ice prince, he has a really bad past as well and he blames himself for that and he’s still paying for the consequences. When I learned about his job, the shock took some time to wear off. I enjoyed the banter between them but I felt it lacked more humour and sass though there were plenty of laugh out loud moments. I also felt that sometimes Isis kept on looking for opportunities to fight with him without any valid reason and it started to get a bit monotonous because of that.

The latter half of the book was far more enjoyable than the first part. But as I actually started loving the book, it ended! Bam! With a massive cliffhanger! Why are authors aso cruel? *sighs* Nonetheless, I liked the mystery surrounding Sophia and I can’t wait to know more.

Overall, Love Me Never was a good read. The plot was executed neatly though sometimes I had difficulty in connecting with the characters, nonetheless I enjoyed the storyline and liked the chemistry between Isis and Jack. The writing was simple and easy to read and the pace was even throughout the book. Despite this book’s ups and downs, I’m really interested in reading the next installment.

Recommend it?

Yes.

  6. Great Review! Despite the issues, I’m glad you enjoyed it. I’ve read this book long time ago and I really liked it. I still haven’t read the next two installments yet but I hope I’ll get to them soon. 😀
