Blurb (from Goodreads):
Her vengeance. His vision.
Ari lost everything she once loved when the Five Guilds’ resistance fell to the Dragon King. Now, she uses her unparalleled gift for clockwork machinery in tandem with notoriously unscrupulous morals to contribute to a thriving underground organ market. There isn’t a place on Loom that is secure from the engineer turned thief, and her magical talents are sold to the highest bidder as long as the job defies their Dragon oppressors.
Cvareh would do anything to see his sister usurp the Dragon King and sit on the throne. His family’s house has endured the shame of being the lowest rung in the Dragons’ society for far too long. The Alchemist Guild, down on Loom, may just hold the key to putting his kin in power, if Cvareh can get to them before the Dragon King’s assassins.
When Ari stumbles upon a wounded Cvareh, she sees an opportunity to slaughter an enemy and make a profit off his corpse. But the Dragon sees an opportunity to navigate Loom with the best person to get him where he wants to go.
He offers her the one thing Ari can’t refuse: A wish of her greatest desire, if she brings him to the Alchemists of Loom.
This book was enjoyable but not as much as I wanted it to. Although the action and the adventure were quite something which kept my steady attention to this book.
After the dragons seized over Arianna’s lands, she lost everything. Now she finally has a new hope to usurp the Dragons with the help of a dragon himself, Cvareh who has a motive of his own. Both of them want the same thing but can two mortal enemies trust each other to reach their destiny?
I enjoyed the plot of this book. Although the starting was pretty slow and confusing, everything started to weave together as the chapters proceeded. Ari is one of the most feared personas in the Loom, but only two of the people know her identity as the White Wraith. I liked how everything was executed. I enjoyed the worldbuilding and learning about all the different races and the magic.
All the characters were pretty interesting but it felt difficult to connect with them, especially Ari. Nonetheless, she was skilled in her art and her perseverance was noteworthy. I loved Florence, she was a mixture of a lot of qualities that I really enjoyed. And then we have Cvareh, he was quite an interesting character that I want to know more of. Lastly, the plot twist was quite epic! I definitely liked it and I sooo want to know what happens after this.
Overall, The Alchemists of Loom was an enjoyable read. I liked the plot and the characters though I would have liked it more if everything was a bit more explained at the beginning. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the action part of this book very much. The writing was smooth and the pace was even throughout the book. I definitely look forward to reading the next book in this series.
Recommend it?
Yes.
