Blurb (from Goodreads):

It is not easy being Magnus Bane. As a warlock, he’s often called upon to fix the problems of others. His life has been long, and his loves have been many. And Magnus has a way of making sure he’s in the right place at the right – or perhaps wrong – time. The French Revolution, Prohibition, the first great battle between Valentine and the New York Institute…

Magnus was there, and usually in the middle of it. Magnus will never be able to tell all of his tales. No one would believe him. But these eleven stories shed a little light on his often inscrutable character. They are stories he probably wishes had never got out.

Soooo, Magnus Bane is not only my favourite warlock but also my favourite character in this entire freaking universe and cosmic galaxy! He is just out of this world awesome and an amaaaaaaaazing person!!! And hilarious 24/7!!

“You’re sarcastic twelve hours a day, but you’re almost never spiteful. You have a good heart under all the glitter.”

And yes, I am guilty of this starting this so freaking late! Anyway, this book is best to read after finishing The Infernal Devices trilogy and The Mortal Instruments series or after book 5 of TMI series.

First of all, this book is hilarious and made me fall in love with Magnus all over again. He’s really a sarcastic yet an awesome warlock full of glittery magic who’s ready to help his friends in need in any situations no matter what but doesn’t show his vulnerable side to just anybody.

The story begins in early 1700’s and goes all the way to present time that we get to see him in The Mortal Instruments series. In this book, we get to see the friendship between Magnus and Catarina and also dear old Ragnor Fell. As much as I adored Catarina and Magnus’s friendship, with Ragnor it was a bit… ehh you can say complicated! XD But entertaining as well! Especially their conversations were pretty much hilarious.

Among the 11 stories, The Rise Of Hotel Dumort and The Last Stand (also I think that this story was in the wrong order) felt a bit bland compared to the rest but Magnus’s wit and sarcasm made up for it.

“Magnus, you were trying to flirt with your own plate.”
“I’m a very open-minded sort of fellow!”
“Ragnor is not,” Catarina said. “When he found out that you were feeding us guinea-pigs, he hit you over the head with your plate. It broke.”
“So ended our love,” Magnus said.

Ooooh oh, we also get to see how Magnus’s love affair with Camille begun in the first place and how everything went up in flames later on. Magnus struggled to find a place which he could call home because whereas his friends came and went, he went on living endlessly being an immortal. He never showed how much it affected him but I feel like I have known Magnus forever, it’s… I can’t exactly explain but you understand the pain. I also loved the one where he saved Raphael! And we also get to see the one and only disgusting Herondale there ever was!! And baby Clary!

The most amazing and funny stories were the ones which involved him and Alec. Ah!! My favourite OTP of the century!! ❤ What To Buy The Shadowhunter Who Already has Everything was pretty hilarious. Magnus’s even calls in a demon (for a different reason) but it ends up giving him dating advice! XD It was hilarious! Also, this was the only demon I liked! Also, in The Course of True Love, we get to see Magnus and Alec’s first official blunderous date which turns awesome because of some unforeseen events!

This was one of the most badass kiss of this century!

Last but not the least, this book ends with The Voicemail of Magnus Bane. This is the incident which happened in book 5 of TMI series when Magnus breaks up with Alec but I kinda forgot about the reason. I think I know but I am not totally sure about it. (If anybody 100% knows please let me know in the comments below!)

“Trust. It is like placing a blade in someone’s hand and setting the very point to your heart.”

Overall, The Bane Chronicles was a very pleasant and an awesome experience! Nothing can go wrong where there is Magnus Bane… um, well not exactly but one will never be bored as long as he is present! I enjoyed the narrative style and the pace was even throughout the book. I love the Shadowhunters universe so freaking much, so much that I never want it to end!!

Recommend it?

Why is that even a question!

Soooooo guys, have you read this yet? Are you a fan of Mr Bane? Also, have you started with Shadowhunters season 3??

  3. Magnus is one of my all time favourite literary characters. Him and Alec make me swoon anytime I see their names together.
BUT, I had the hardest time trying to get into this omnibus years ago. I was so disappointed in myself because I really wanted to love it 😦 I do really want to read them so I think I might try the audio version in the future.
I’m so glad you enjoyed it though!

  4. Magnus broke it off with Alec because he was secretly meeting with Camille to consider taking away his immortality, which is honestly such a great reason for him to be mad because I was freaking angry at Alec for that. But also, I ship them SOOOO MUCH
