1. Finding Your Voice: Writing in First Person (or Third)

The best way to find your writing voice is, in my opinion, writing about something you love. For me it was writing fanfiction of videogames, books, etc that I loved. That really helped me to just write naturally, because the characters were already in my head, and so was the world. So all that was left was my own voice, and I could see it clearly coming through. I guess my recommendation is to write fanfiction, then! It helps to hone your skills and story-telling abilities a ton, especially if you write in a universe you really and truly love. The more you love it, the better your writing/honing will turn out to be!

Another way is to play around with tenses. A lot of people write first person present tense, which is my preferred favorite, but flexing your writing muscles by writing third person past or even the off-the-wall second person are great exercises. Different tenses really push you beyond your comfortable boundaries as a writer, and helps you find what you’re really good at. You can even switch it up in the same book, though you have to be careful about confusing your readers with that advanced move. It’s a delicate balance.

Thank you for having me!

Blurb:

Isis Blake hasn’t fallen in love in three years, forty-three weeks, and two days. Or so she thinks.

The boy she maybe-sort-of-definitely loved and sort-of-maybe-definitely hated has dropped off the face of the planet in the face of tragedy, leaving a Jack Hunter–shaped hole. Determined to be happy, Isis fills it in with lies and puts on a brave smile for her new life at Ohio State University.

But the smile lasts only until he shows up. The menace from her past—her darkest secret, Nameless—is attending OSU right alongside her. And he’s whispering that he has something Isis wants—something she needs to see to move forward. To move on.

Isis has always been able to pretend everything is okay. But not anymore.

Isis Blake might be good at putting herself back together.

But Jack Hunter is better.

Title: Swinging at Love
Author: Kendra C. Highley
Series: Suttonville Sentinels, book 2 [Can be read as a standalone]
Genre: Contemporary, Romance, [Young-Adult]
Heat Rating: Cool
Page Count ad Format: 228 pages, Ebook
Published: March 13th, 2017 by Entangled: Crush
Source: I received an eARC of this book via Netgalley for this book tour in exchange for an honest review.
My Rating:

Blurb (from Goodreads):

Outfielder Tristan Murrell has a problem. As the number two slugger for the Suttonville Sentinels, his team is counting on him to make their very first run at the state championship. But he has a secret—his swing has totally deserted him. As in, he can’t hit anything. He needs to fix the issue, and fast, but how?

Ballerina Alyssa Kaplan has a problem, too. The shiny new sports complex in town has left her family’s batting cage business on the verge of going under. Nailing her audition for a prestigious dance company is everything, but there’s no way she’s letting her some shiny big-box company destroy her family’s livelihood.

Tristan needs a miracle. So does Alyssa. And maybe, just maybe, Tristan’s secret weapon might be the girl of his dreams…

Disclaimer: This book contains hot, shirtless baseball players, kisses that bring a ballerina to her knees, and a lot of baseball smack-talk.

This was a quick read and fun read. This book definitely had its flaws but overall I really enjoyed it.

Tristan is facing a lot of problems in his baseball despite being one of the top players in his team. Alyssa loves her ballet but she can do nothing when her father’s business is going out of market. They both begin to fall for one another when Tristan comes to her father’s batting cage for some alone practice. But things begin to fall out of control when both their best friends confess for a liking to one another. The only way out is to confess the truth or lose their friendship forever.

The plot was predictable and cheesy as hell but at the same time, it was quite enjoyable. Alyssa and Tristan start falling for one another when Tristan decides to do some practice to get out of his slump. Alyssa being a former softball player helps him out and Tristan discovers that she is his muse as well. I enjoyed their relationship. But then, both of Tristan’s best friend confessed he liked Alyssa and Alyssa’s bff confessed she liked Tristan which was kinda weird, even for them and it was quite natural that they couldn’t decide how to break it to them. It did feel a little unrealistic how everything was sunshine and rainbows at the end.

Nonetheless, the characters kept me interested throughout the book. Alyssa was pretty smart and confident and she spoke her mind. She and Tristan were pretty much a perfect couple. Tristan’s gesture to save her family business was really sweet. The other characters were pretty fun to read about as well.

Overall, Swinging at Love was a fun but predictable read. I liked the characters and the romance between Alyssa and Tristan. The writing was smooth and easy to read and the pace was even throughout the book.

Recommend it?

Yes.

Interview with Merrie Destefano: Author of Lost Girls || Blog Tour

unnamed

Welcome to my tour stop of Lost Girls by Merrie Destefano hosted by Chapter by Chapter. You can view the full tour schedule here.

So today I present you the interview of Merrie Destefano, the author of Lost Girls. I read this book in December and quite enjoyed it. You can read my review of the book, here. So, without further ado…

Interview

1. Describe your book in 140 characters.

BLACK SWAN meets FIGHT CLUB.

2. What was your inspiration for the plot of Lost Girls?

I started with an idea that changed quite a bit as I worked on the story. In the beginning, Lost Girls was a book where part of the story was about kidnapped teens that had strange new abilities when they came back home—a bit like superheroes. It was always a mystery, though, where the main character, Rachel Evans, was trying to figure what had happened to her and who had kidnapped her.

3. What genre do you enjoy writing the most?

I really love writing science fiction and fantasy. When I started Lost Girls it would have fallen into one of those categories, but with the changes, the book went through, it became a YA contemporary. I actually think it’s a much stronger book without the fantastical elements.

4. What was the thing that you felt was the hardest to write in Lost Girls?

I’ve been answering this question as the fight scenes, so I’m going to go for a different angle this time. The scenes that were the hardest for me to write because of the emotional content were the scenes that dealt with Nicole. The information Rachel learns as she investigates who Nicole was is pivotal to the story and, to me, it’s heartbreaking. Maybe because Nicole reminds me of a girl who was my best friend for many years.

5. Is the lead protagonist of this book, Rachel inspired by anyone in real life?

That’s a great question! Actually, most of the other characters were inspired by people I’ve really known, but not Rachel. She was born for this story. She’s much stronger than I am, emotionally and physically, so she’s not based on me! Maybe a very tiny bit of her is like Nancy Drew, one of my favorite heroines when I was a young girl, because Rachel finds herself in the midst of a mystery and she’s the only one who can solve it.

6. Have you learned anything in the process of writing that you wished you’d known when you first started?

Yes! There are many things about who I am as a writer that I wished I had known. In the beginning, I didn’t know that I’m an intuitive writer and it’s really best if I get to discover the story as I go. If I do too much outlining or planning it will take away my excitement for the project. So now I usually work with a loose plot point outline, where I know the basic turning points and, most especially, the doorways that lead from Act 1 to Act 2 and from Act 2 to Act 3.

7. What is your advice for aspiring writers?

Don’t give up. It’s a long road. That does not mean the journey isn’t exciting or rewarding. I’ve learned that I’m happiest if I focus on the joy of writing. For me, the process itself is more meaningful and creative and nurturing than getting published. Since I realized that, I’ve been able to have joy even during those seasons when I don’t have a contract with a publisher or an agent. The other thing that I think is very important is the act of nurturing relationships with other writers. It’s awesome to be able to support another writer when they have a new book coming out or when they get a contract. It’s not a competition. The writing community is very supportive. I recommend starting friendships with other writers who are at the same level you are. They are the ones who will be there with you throughout your career.

It was great having you on my blog today! Thank you so much and I wish you much success in the future.

And thank you for inviting me! I had a great time!

Title: Lost Girls
Author: Merrie Destefano
Genre: Mystery, Thriller, Romance, [Young-Adult]
Published: January 3rd, 2017 by Entangled: Teen

Blurb (from Goodreads):

Yesterday, Rachel went to sleep listening to Taylor Swift, curled up in her grammy’s quilt, worrying about geometry. Today, she woke up in a ditch, bloodied, bruised, and missing a year of her life.

She doesn’t recognize the person she’s become: she’s popular. She wears nothing but black.

Black to cover the blood.

And she can fight.

Tell no one.

She’s not the only girl to go missing within the last year…but she’s the only girl to come back. She desperately wants to unravel what happened to her, to try and recover the rest of the Lost Girls.

But the more she discovers, the more her memories return. And as much as her new life scares her, it calls to her. Seductively. The good girl gone bad, sex, drugs, and raves, and something darker…something she still craves—the rush of the fight, the thrill of the win—something she can’t resist, that might still get her killed…

The only rule is: There are no rules.

Interview

Welcome to my little blog! I am so glad to have you here today.

1. Tell us a little about yourself.

I’ve been married to my high school sweetheart for 21 years, we have two teenagers, I love chocolate, I serve four spoiled cats, and I love words.

2. Describe The Bad Boy Bargain in not more than 140 words.

Good girl seeks bad boy to enact revenge on her nasty ex.

3. Do you prefer absolute silence while writing or do you usually have a playlist? If yes, would you mind sharing a few songs from your playlist for The Bad Boy Bargain?

I always have a playlist for each of my books. I need the music to set the tone. Some of the songs for Faith and Kyle include:

1. “The Fall” by Imagine Dragons
2. “Please” by Sawyer Fredericks
3. “Cecilia and the Sattelite” by Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness
4. “Renegades” by X Ambassadors
5. “People Will Say We’re in Love” from Oklahoma, Rogers and Hammerstein
6. “Up&Up” by Coldplay
7. “Something” by The Beatles
8. “Captain” by Dave Mathews Band
9. “Fade Into You” by Mazzy Star
10. “Beautiful” by Moby
11. “Burning Bridges” by One Republic
12. “Who Are You, Really?” by MikkyEkko
13. “How Do You Like Me Now?” by The Heavy
14. “How Soon Is Now?” by The Smiths
15. “Feel Again” by One Republic

4. What is your dream cast for this book?

Wow, that’s a tough one. I can see Elle Fanning as Faith. She has that sweetness to her. A young Colton Haynes would be perfect for Kyle (like six or seven years ago).

5. What was the most fun part to write in The Bad Boy Bargain?

I think the banter between Faith and Kyle was my favorite. They riff off each other, and fun conversations ensue. Plus the “save the day” theater at the end always makes me smile.

6. What is the thing you love the most about writing?

The act of creating a world that wasn’t there before. It’s a huge stress reliever for me, actually.

7. What is your advice for aspiring writers?

Read everything you can, especially in your own genre. Find a good critique group of experienced writers. Take it slow—don’t rush a piece into the world because once it’s there, it can’t be taken back. Most of all, (and this was the advice I received from Laurie Halse Anderson once) DON’T QUIT.

It was great having you on my blog today! Thank you so much and I wish you much success in the future.

Thanks so much for having me!!

Interview

First of all, welcome to my little blog!

1. How did you come up with the idea for the Lovely Vicious series?

I decided I wanted to write a comedy romance YA, since I couldn’t find one I liked!

2. How do you develop your plots and characters?

I let my characters have free reign on the plot – it really helps to move it along, considering my characters are usually so off the wall.

3. What was the hardest thing to write in Forget Me Always?

Oh gosh, the final scene was super hard. Don’t tell anyone, but I cried for about a week after it.

(I totally get it!)

4. Do you have any unique or quirky writing habits?

I LOVE to write on post-it notes and stick them on my desk to remind myself to write certain parts in, or fact-check certain things.

5. What was your favorite chapter (or part) to write and why?

My favorite chapter was the one where Isis and Jack meet again, outside of the hospital and back in school. I just love seeing them together in that setting so much!!! Their banter is my favorite thing to right possibly ever.

6. Give us an interesting fun fact about your book.

It only took me a month to write!

7. What is your advice for aspiring writers?

Keep reading. The more you read, the better you get at words, I promise.

Thank you so much for being on my blog today! I wish you much success in the future.

Thank you! This has been delightful.

It’s been three years, twenty-five weeks, and five days since Isis Blake fell in love, and if she has it her way, it’ll stretch into infinity. The one bright spot for Isis is Sophia, the ephemeral girl who shares Isis’s hospital stay as well as a murky past with Jack. But as Isis’s memories return, she finds it harder and harder to resist what she felt for Jack, and Jack finds it impossible to stay away from the only girl who’s ever melted the ice around his heart.

As the dark secrets surrounding Sophia emerge, Isis realizes Jack isn’t who she thought he was. He’s dangerous. But when Isis starts receiving terrifying emails from an anonymous source, that danger might be the only thing protecting her from something far more threatening.

Interview with Pintip Dunn: Author of the Forget Tomorrow series || Blog Tour

Welcome to my tour stop of Remember Yesterday by Pintip Dunn hosted by Chapter by Chapter. You can view the full tour schedule here.

I got the wonderful opportunity to interview the author of the Forget Tomorrow series. I loved Forget Tomorrow and Remember Yesterday. Remember Yesterday, i.e. book 2 in this series just released this month and it was such an amazing read. Without further ado, I present you the interview of Pintip Dunn-

Interview

Before we begin with the questions I would like to welcome you to my little blog.

Thank you so much! I’m absolutely delighted to be here!

1. Tell us a little about yourself.

I’m a lawyer-turned-mother-turned-writer. I graduated from Harvard, with an A.B. in English, and then received my J.D. from Yale Law School. My first novel,FORGET TOMORROW, was published last year, and I’m thrilled to say that it won the RWA RITA® for Best First Book and hit the New York Times bestselling list. My other books include THE DARKEST LIE, my newly released REMEMBER YESTERDAY, and my upcoming novella, BEFORE TOMORROW.

I live with my husband and three kids in Maryland.

2. What do you love the most about writing?

There is so much turbulence inside of me as if my mind was made up of tectonic plates, and the masses were constantly pushing, pushing, pushing against one another. However, when I write, the motion ceases. I feel a piece of my soul clicking into place, and I know that I am closest to my true self when I’m writing.

3. What was the hardest thing to write in Remember Yesterday?

Weeelll…there wasn’t one particular scene but multiple scenes in REMEMBER YESTERDAY that were hard. I cried during the entire second half of writing this book. Not because it was difficult to write but because it was so emotional for me. These characters really took my heart and wrung it out. This has never happened to me in writing a book before. (And I’ve written six that will be published and three before that!) I usually cry at least once or twice during the writing of a book. In fact, I don’t feel like I reach the heart of a book unless I get a little teary. But this time was just waterworks. The characters mean that much to me.

4. What is the thing you love most about the protagonist, Jessa Stone in Remember Yesterday ?

Jessa was six years old in FORGET TOMORROW, and now it’s ten years later, and she’s all grown up. What I love most about Jessa is her spunk. She loves extreme sports — extreme anything, really — and lives her life to take risks. At the same time, however, she harbors an intense hatred of the scientists and secretly feels like she is unworthy. She’s grown up in the shadows of her sister’s actions, and she must find a way to break free from that and prove her worth — to herself.

I think she’s quite a different character from Callie (my heroine from FORGET TOMORROW) — or at least, she perceives herself to be. Everyone sees Callie as selfless, kind, generous. In contrast, Jessa thinks of herself as a brat who can’t get along with her mother and spends her time risking her neck doing stupid stunts.

In the course of this story, however, Jessa will come to understand her true strength. What the two sisters have in common, and what makes them both great characters is the deep, unconditional love they have for each other and the lengths they would go through for each other.

5. If you could spend your time with any one of the characters from Forget Tomorrow or Remember Yesterday, who would you choose and why?

I’d love to spend time with Tanner, the hero from Remember Yesterday. He’s cute, smart, and arrogant, but with a hidden streak of selflessness. I find him really amusing, and I think it would be a blast to hang out with him!

6. What is your advice for aspiring writers?

Persevere. The path to publication can be a long and hard road. But the difference between an unpublished and published writer is that the published writer didn’t give up.

It was great having you on my blog today! Thank you so much and I wish you much success in the future.

Thank you so much for having me! It was a pleasure to be here!

Blurb (from Goodreads):Sixteen-year-old Jessa Stone is the most valuable citizen in Eden City. Her psychic abilities could lead to significant scientific discoveries, if only she’d let TechRA study her. But ten years ago, the scientists kidnapped and experimented on her, leading to severe ramifications for her sister, Callie. She’d much rather break into their labs and sabotage their research—starting with Tanner Callahan, budding scientist and the boy she loathes most at school.

The past isn’t what she assumed, though—and neither is Tanner. He’s not the arrogant jerk she thought he was. And his research opens the door to the possibility that Jessa can rectify a fatal mistake made ten years earlier. She’ll do anything to change the past and save her sister—even if it means teaming up with the enemy she swore to defeat.

Blurb (from Goodreads):

True love can’t be strategized.

After book blogger Vivian Galdi’s longtime crush pretends their secret summer kissing sessions never happened, Vivian creates a list of safe crushes, determined to protect her heart.

But nerd-hot Dallas, the sweet new guy in town, sends the mission and Vivian’s zing meter into chaos. While designing software for the bookstore where Vivian works, Dallas wages a counter-mission.

Operation Replacement Crush is in full effect. And Dallas is determined to take her heart off the shelf.

USEEEEEEEEE

There are some books that are just perfect for you. The Replacement Crush was that for me! I loved every single thing about this book and I enjoyed every freaking moment of it.

Vivian or Viv is a hopeless romantic but after she gets rejected by her crush, she decides to take a logical approach towards love so that her heart would be safe this time. She makes a list of potential targets despite the reluctance of her best friends. But she can’t get Dallas, the new guy in town and the McNerd as her friends call him, out of her mind despite the fact that he’s not on the list. When they start working together, Viv can’t deny the attraction between them but will she ever let anything happen between them or will she let her fear hold her back?

The plot was absolutely fantastic! I enjoyed it sooo much! There were so many factors in this book that I absolutely adored. I loved how the story was executed, in a neat and perfect way. Viv’s heart is crushed after she gets rejected by her crush so she forms a plan for the replacement crush and makes a list of targets. Despite the warning from her best friends that love can’t be strategized, she decides to move forward with her plan. In comes Dallas, the new guy in their school who also starts working in her mom’s bookstore to make a database. I loved the chemistry and the angst between Dallas and Viv! It was sooo freaking perfect! Both were so stubborn, everybody could see it except these two!

I loved with all the characters in this book. Viv was a great character, I could understand her insecurities and I loved to see her growing more as a person throughout the book. Especially in the end, the way she rounded things up, was hilariously epic! I loved Dallas, he was soo swoony! C’mon who doesn’t want a hot McNerd in their life! He was caring and I loved how he challenged Viv. Jaz and Amy were the perfect best friends, I loved Viv’s bond with them. It was seriously so good. I also adored her relationship with her mom, they were more like friends and I loved how they understood each other.

Overall, The Replacement Crush was a greeeeat read! I loved the plot and the characters and I was hooked from the very first page. The romance between Dallas and Viv was so sweet, I loved how their relationship proceeded. The writing was beautiful and smooth and the pace was even throughout the book. I seriously enjoyed this book sooo much! I can’t wait to read more by this author.

Blurb (from Goodreads):

Holly Hart has it all: designer clothes, affluent friends, a recording contract, and she’s dating the biggest pop star in America.

It’s too bad he can’t be seen with her in public. It’s even worse that he seems so very cozy with Lacey, the girl who seems to enjoy stealing Holly’s dream and taking all the credit for their platinum-selling album.

And Lacey? Well she couldn’t carry a tune in a bucket, but that hasn’t stopped her from basking in the glow of the fame and fortune that comes with pretending to be Holly.

Yet, Holly signed a contract vowing to never reveal her true identity as the girl behind the hit songs. Her record label doesn’t want anyone to know their teen dream is really a chubby, insecure girl from Iowa.

Holly needs to focus on finals. She can’t let herself be distracted by the extremely hot and talented Grayson Frost or his prevailing attachment to Lacey. This is the deal Holly made, and she has to honor it no matter how much she hates it.

As if that’s not enough pressure, her grandparents have come to stay, her mom is dating a guy who makes his own deodorant, Shell Shocked Records want Holly to distance herself from Grayson, and she’ll probably end up failing Driver’s Ed.

In a town full of gossip and secrets, Holly wonders just how much longer she can continue to live a double life.

When the media gets a little too close for comfort, both Holly and Lacey are at risk. Soon Holly realizes her dream isn’t only about her and if she is to ever be truly happy, she’ll need to find a way past her insecurities.

Holly Hearts Headlines started right after where book 1 left off. You can read my review for book 1, i.e. Holly Hearts Hollywood here.

*CONTAINS MINOR SPOILERS BUT READ AHEAD IF YOU’VE READ BOOK 1*

Holly has it all but she can’t actually share all her secrets with anyone except Serena who already knows the most of it being the executive’s daughter and Holly’s friend. Everything around her is a mess and things are getting more and more complicated as days are passing by. She’s juggling with her double life but the question is how longer can she keep but before her secret comes out?

In this book, Holly’s life is more complicated as she’s also dating Grayson and Lacey is upset with her. But as she said in book 1 that she was going to mend their relationship, she does nothing of that sort. Instead Holly turns so selfish in this book that I could hardly recognise her with the girl in book 1. Yes, I know Lacey isn’t a great person but what Holly did was actually more terrible. But thankfully her common sense came back and she confessed and did the most of it to redo the consequences. I liked the fact that she did her best to return to her original version and be the girl that everybody loved, though it took her a lot of time to understand that what she was doing was actually wrong and she was being too self centered. I loved how she mended all her relationships that had gone all wrong and did the best to be a better person.

The romance was okay but I really wanted to see more communication between Holly and Grayson but we didn’t get to see that so I didn’t actually root for these two as much I wanted to. I liked the friendship aspect in this book and I loved Serena. She’s the perfect friend, always coming to rescue. I would love to have a friend like her. Although she’s so famous and rich she’s not snobbish and bitchy like Lacey. I wanted to see more about the singing accept but there was almost nothing about it, I hope we get to see more about it in the next book.

This book was written in diary format as well, like the first book. The writing style didn’t bother me much in this book because I was sort of comfortable with it after reading the first book. The writing was simple and easy to read. I easily finished this book in one sitting and the pace was even throughout the book.

Overall, I enjoyed reading Holly Hearts Headlines. The plot was good and there was character development. I wanted to see more about the singing aspect and hopefully we’ll get to see it in book 3. The writing was smooth and the pace was even throughout the book.

Recommend it?

Yes if you enjoyed book 1.

Blurb (from Goodreads):

Seventeen-year-old Holly Hart wants to be a star. She moves to Los Angeles from the small town of Cedar Junction, only to hear she’s too fat and ugly to be a famous singer.

But when Shell Shocked Records looks past Holly’s plus-size and less-than-graceful-personality to offer her a recording contract, Holly cannot believe her good fortune. On closer inspection, however, the the record execs want Holly to do all the singing, and a thinner and more beautiful girl, Lacey, would lip-sync and get all the credit. Holly goes for it because after all, she wanted to sing.

Contractually bound to secrecy, Holly is more than happy to sit backstage and write in her journal while Lacey shimmies in the limelight and basks in the fame. Before she knows it, Holly is friends with Serena, the pop-star daughter of a music-mogul, flirting with an intern, and developing a strange half-friendship with Lacey.

When Grayson Frost, the biggest country star in America, and coincidentally, a former school bully begins dating Lacey, Holly hopes that he won’t recognize or torment her.

Through a series of embarrassing and weird events, Holly gets to know Grayson and learns that he is much nicer and more mature than he was four years ago. Holly is horrified when she starts falling for him. When Grayson admits he fell for Lacey’s voice, what is a girl to do when she can’t legally tell the truth at the moment when the truth matters the most?

PicsArt_1443945753901

I’m still a bit confused what to feel about this book because I thought this was going to be like some forbidden kind of thingy like “Another Cinderella Story” featuring Lucy Hale but it was not exactly what I wanted. Though there were some pretty funny moments but this book didn’t live upto my expectations.

After hearing Holly’s voice in YouTube, Shell Shocked Records offered her a recording contract but it has a catch, she can’t come infront of the camera and some another girl named Lacey would be the front face and will lip-sync her songs and get all the credit. Holly agrees to the condition because she hates being the centre of attraction. But then Grayson come into the picture, her former classmate and a bully. As she gets to know him, she realises he has changed a lot and also that she can’t help but like him. She wants to tell him the truth but she’s bound in a contract. And on top of that the executive of Shell Shocked tells Holly to stay the hell away from them. It’s upto Holly to decide if she wants to keep intact the contract or her friends.

I thought the concept was going to be executed in a different way. But unfortunately, it wasn’t. When someone is a singer, I think the voice matters the most and not your size. I don’t think I’ve ever criticised a person who has a gorgeous voice but is a plus size. Like who even cares when you have an awsome voice! But this was not the case for Holly when Shell Shocked offered the contract to her only if she agreed to be behind the camera. I was outraged or you can say dissapointed, that she even agreed to this and even her mom was okay with this! Like seriously, WHAT THE HELL! This thing was what that bothered me the most, I thought there was going to be some more unusual circumstances under which she had to agree to this ridiculous demand. Other than this factor, the book was quite enjoyable and even hilarious sometimes. The was not much forbidden romance as I had expected (I wanted that, you guys know I’m a sucker for forbidden romance) , I wanted to see more communication between them, somehow the connection between them felt empty.

The characters were… umm good! I can’t say I couldn’t exactly connect with Holly because I did. I liked her voice and I could connect with the insecurities that she felt but still that doesn’t mean you could make that stupid decesion! I liked the friendship between Holly and Serena, the executive’s daughter, who’s also a singer. She was a great character. I didn’t like Lacey much, she was a snobby character. She did have a good side but she usually liked being a bitch. Grayson was somewhat okay, we didn’t see much of him in the book, so I don’t know what I exactly feel about that guy but like I said I wanted more communication between him and Holly.

This book was totally written in diary format but it didn’t actually follow the full style because there were too many dialogues. I don’t know why the author bothered to write it that way because it would’ve been fine if it was chapter wise because it totally looked like that. So yeah, it kinda bothered me at first. I thought I was going to DNF it but I carried on. The writing was simple and easy to read and the pace was slow at the beginning and even throughout the rest of the book.

Overall, Holly Hearts Hollywood was a book that I somewhat liked. The concept and the writing style bothered me but the characters were good and I liked the friendship aspect of this book. It was funny and hilarious sometimes. The writing was simple and the pace differed a little throughout the book.

Recommend it?

Yes if you like this kind of storyline.
