Stupid Girl is the first book I read by this author and I immensely loved it! Although I had seen many negative reviews in Goodreads, I went into this book with a neutral perspective and I’m glad I did. But I also think it’s a hit or miss kinda book, from what I saw in Goodreads, is that you either love it or you hate it, thankfully I fell into the former category. And I love the cover, the colour is so gorgeous and beautiful!
Olivia Gracie Beaumont is a small town girl headed off to Winston University, leaving all her bitter past memories behind and wanting to have a fresh start with her full focus only on studies. But things begin to turn out quite the opposite after she literally crashes with the college heartbreaker Brax. Reluctant at first, she accepts his friendship and surprisingly she realises she enjoys their time together. It’s not long before they both figure out they are fighting with the feelings for each other. But when the past comes haunting back, will they be able to stand strong together? Or will the secrets spill and tear them apart?
I just LOVED Brax’s Boston accent, it killed me! Gosh, I have a thing for accents like this! Okay, coming back to my review, I have to say that the plot was utterly cliché with a dare and bitter pasts but this book had that strong addictive element and I couldn’t put it down. I was hooked after reading the prologue and I wanted to know more about Olivia’s life. She goes through something horrible that every girl dreads in this world but she got no choice other than to keep her mouth shut and move on. So she did and she promised herself that her soul focus would be only on her studies. But after meeting Brax everything chances. This guy literally bursts into her life bringing the ray of hope that she desperately needed. I simply loved their relationship, for nearly the first half of the book we see the sweet friendship between these two as they form a strong bond and begin to trust each other.
I liked Olivia from the beginning, she was a strong woman and I admired her for everything that she was despite her bitter past. And Brax… yup I loved that guy! Despite the hard shell that Olivia created around her heart, he crept in slowly. He was persistent, charming, protective and definitely swoon worthy. And did I mention his accent, yeah got me smiling like a fool every damn time. (I’m smiling thinking about it. 🙂 ) When she realised she loved him, I thought it was a bit too fast considering how much she went through before but it didn’t bother me much. Brax called Olivia by her middle name Gracie throughout the book, some people thought it was weird but I felt it was it was really sweeeeet.
Olivia’s roommate Tessa was an awsome character, I enjoyed her scenes and I wish there were more. One thing that enraged me was that the bad guy never got punished. I really wanted to see him behind the bars but I think the author portrayed it a bit too realistically. Though I really, really hope something happens about this matter in the next book. I was going to deduct a star because of this but after that epic ending, all was forgiven!
Overall, Stupid Girl was an enjoyable read. I honestly thought this review was going to be much shorter but guess this happens when you love a book. Although the plot was clichéd but it was perfectly executed and I fell in love with the characters, they had their fair share of faults but they evolved throughout the book. I was thinking of Taylor Swift’s White Horse everytime she was thinking “stupid girl”. The writing was smooth and easy to read and the pace was even throughout the book. I’m definitely looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

Because the MC was constantly repeating his words in her mind and they were given in Italics and I felt I was constantly hearing it as well. I’M IN LOVE WITH THAT ACCENT! ❤

I haven’t even heard of this one but I’m glad it was so good! 😀 Those hit-or-miss books worry me. XD I usually end up being in the “miss” category, but, squee, I do love it when a plot is just perfectly executed. Cliches aside. xD

I recently read/reviewed this as well! I liked it but it didn’t WOW me like some other New Adult books. I think my issue was with the “bet” since things like that seem to be common in a lot of NA books. Still a great set of characters. 🙂
